Watch Out, Peloton! Here Come The Spidermen!

SpiderTech sponsors Planet Energy pro cycling team

When Team Plant Energy (www.teamplanetenergy.com) takes the start this Sunday (June 7th) at the 156-mile Philadelphia International Cycling Championship, the biggest one-day race held on U.S. roads, some of the athletes will have Spiders on their bodies. These Spiders don’t bite, but they might enable Team Planet Energy to take a bite out of the pro peloton. SpiderTech (www.spidertech.com), the ready-to-apply taping applications designed to alleviate pain and provide support to weakened and injured areas of the body, has come aboard as a sponsor of Team Planet Energy, Canada’s top professional cycling team that is under the direction of Tour de France stage winner Steve Bauer, an Olympic silver medalist.

SpiderTech was developed by Toronto, Ontario’s Nucap Medical to innovatively address pain management and myofascial dysfunction through the use of specialized elastic tape applications made from the proven Nitto-Denko tape, the original kinesiology tape from Japan engineered to mimic the thickness, weight and elasticity of human skin. It is available in fourteen pre-cut therapeutic and performance enhancing supports known as Spiders that were created by chiropractor Dr. Kevin Jardine, an advisor to numerous professional cyclists, runners, triathletes, and sports teams.

“We’re thrilled to be supporting the world-class cyclists that comprise Team Planet Energy, a relationship that will allow SpiderTech products to be utilized in their full capacity with the treatment of painful conditions, improving performance and preventing injuries. Day in, day out, cyclists constantly demand the most from their bodies. The use of SpiderTech products will allow them to take it one step further, which could be the margin of victory,” stated Jardine.

“SpiderTech is a brilliant evolution in sports taping technology,” declared Bauer. “The taping system is at the leading edge of design and functionality. SpiderTech is applied quickly, efficiently and it works. If an athlete is not using SpiderTech now, they will be soon.”

Team Planet Energy rider Ryan Roth said, “I’ve used SpiderTech combined with treatment from Kevin and was quickly able to resolve the trouble I was having with my knee with very little training time lost. I’ve continued using SpiderTech during my recovery and as a preventative measure.”

Team captain Francois Parisien concurred. “At times in my career, I have had knee injuries that have made it difficult to train properly. With SpiderTech taping technology, I am able to train and race as hard as I want with peace of mind. SpiderTech is a great asset for any athlete.”

Both SpiderTech and SpiderTape – the new brand name for Nitto-Denko kinesiology tape distributed by Nucap Medical – are fabricated from high-grade cotton material with 100% acrylic, hypoallergenic adhesive. It is water-resistant and breathable, and can be worn for up to five days. Currently SpiderTech is offered as the Upper Knee Spider, Full Knee Spider, Calf & Arch Spider, Shoulder Spider, Lower Back Spider, Lymphatic Spider, Hip Spider, Postural Spider, Groin Spider, Hamstring Spider, Elbow Spider, Wrist Spider, Neck Spider and Ankle Spider.

The origins of SpiderTech and SpiderTape are traced to the unique Nitto-Denko tape that was developed in 1987 for a Japanese chiropractor for kinesiology taping. The tape is used and accepted worldwide by professional and Olympic athletes and was referred to as “the magic tape” in Lance Armstrong’s book Every Second Counts. With more than 25 years of product development and production, it is regarded as the elite line and world standard in kinesiology tape.
